INDOVANCE Inc with its exclusive delivery hub in India is a global CAD Outsourcing partner serving the needs of the AEC industry since 2003. At INDOVANCE we focus on the unique need of each project or client and believe in addressing the real challenges and guarantee that the process will be well-coordinated, smooth, efficient, and hassle-free.

Why is BIM important to construction managers?

Global trends are driving the transition that is taking place in the AEC sector. Thanks to the many technological advancements, professionals in the field may now work more productively and efficiently.

Building information modelling (BIM) technology is becoming more and more essential to the competitive AEC industry. BIM will soon have an impact on architects, engineers, and other stakeholders who do not already use it as the practise develops internationally. The AEC sector has backed the application of the BIM methodology to improve design efficacy and accuracy, increase productivity, and counteract contract margin contraction.

Throughout the design process, building information modelling technology helps architects. BIM helps architecture businesses learn more early on about the needs of their clients. By combining visualisation, coordination, collaboration, and analysis tools to obtain insights into what your design will represent, this aids the architect in making Smart Design Decisions early in the development process.

Building information modeling (BIM) has been a buzzword in the planning and design profession for some time now. The common consensus is that BIM is simply a new piece of software that allows for the creation of a more complicated building model. While a three-dimensional (3-D) model is produced as part of the process, BIM is much more than a 3-D model, or a software tool used by architects and designers to develop construction documentation. BIM is Intelligent.

5 Key Benefits of BIM In Construction

BIM is a method for improving workflow and adding to the entire procedure. Architects and colleagues may save and perform intricate calculations instantly thanks to this shared knowledge resource. Because using BIM in the architectural field offers so many advantages, it has become the cornerstone for all future developments in the building and construction business. Here are some strong arguments for why BIM will rule the future of architecture. Here are the 5 greatest benefits of BIM in construction:

  1. Visualize Project in Planning

BIM tools allow for the visualisation and planning of projects during the preconstruction stage for a better and smarter design. 3D visualisations and simulations allow you to experience the design before it is built and make changes to optimise it.

2.      Model-based Construction Cost Estimation

Cost estimation model (5D BIM) in the planning stage is more effective, and the use of BIM tools such as Revit and BIM 360 Docs automates the time-consuming task of quantifying and implementing costs, allowing estimators to focus on higher value factors such as identifying construction assemblies and factoring risks. This reduces overall costs, increases predictability, and improves understanding of lifecycle costs.

3.      Environmental Impact Analysis

6D BIM software can display a building in a sixth dimension, which is an analysis of the environmental impact of the building over time. This assists us in identifying the most energy-efficient materials and regenerative design features.

4.      Enhanced Productivity

BIM can be utilized to generate production drawings or databases on the fly, allowing for greater use of prefabrication and modular construction technology. The detailed production models can then be prefabricated off-site in a controlled environment, increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and lowering labor and material costs.

5.      BIM Interoperability

BIM interoperability signifies the ability to exchange data with different systems without requiring major changes. BIM enables the use of visualization techniques like augmented reality (AR) in the AEC domain for things like defect control, facility management, and pre-construction preview of a built environment.

Conclusion

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is emerging as an innovative method of project management. BIM accelerates collaboration among stakeholders, resulting in increased profitability, lower costs, better time management, and improved client relationships. BIM not only makes design and construction teams more efficient, but it also enables them to use the data generated during the process to benefit from operational and maintenance activities.

The AEC industry is embracing the benefits of BIM Collaboration Cloud Technology, CAD Outsourcing, and data management solutions.

CAD Outsourcing is a powerful tool used by companies around the globe to leverage the global talent pool and get competitive and cost-effective solutions at a quicker TAT (turn-around time).

Westin Brings Its Wellness Focus to London with First Hotel In United Kingdom

Along the banks of the River Thames in London, The Westin opened its first hotel in the UK. The hotel features 5-star luxury throughout and boasts iconic riverside views. Created a gentle, relaxing lighting system to reflect the wellness that is the hotel's main focus.

Nulty collaborated with Dexter Moren Associates to design a layered lighting scheme for the venue, which is close to St. Paul’s Cathedral and the River Thames. It produces a serene, composed backdrop laced with drama.

Nulty Illuminates the Hotel Design

The entrance lobby, aptly named The Haven, spans three floors, and is basked in natural light. Track lighting around three sides of the atrium is angled to enhance a spectacular suspended paper installation that casts a dappled silhouette on the fourth grey wall, instilling tranquillity.

The 222 guestrooms' lighting design includes a number of incorporated lighting elements that are intended to cast a pleasant glow around items like the headboard. Cove lighting is used in the suites to interact with decorative chandeliers and lamps, with an emphasis on balancing levels of light. A dimming rotary dial dims all of the lights, allowing visitors to choose their own lighting levels and create their own lighting scenes.

Adjustable spotlights are integrated into a curved wood ceiling and positioned at varying heights in Hithe + Seek, a wine bar on the second floor. The light is hidden to follow the contours of the architectural ceiling, drawing the eye to a series of interlocking globe pendants that add character and intimacy to the space, especially after dark when the bar is visible through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The bar itself is a focal point, with integrated lighting within the joinery and graze lighting beneath the countertop to highlight the beauty of the stone.

Focussing on wellness – The spa, pool, and fitness area have been designed by Nulty to engulf guests in serenity and tranquillity. This meant paying close attention to the materials in the underground swimming pool by grazing light across the textured surfaces and using lines of illumination to frame and accentuate a series of recessed stone feature walls. Coffer lighting provides warm ambient light from above in the Heavenly Spa by Westin reception area, while diffuse lines of light in the ceiling and walls contribute to the space’s relaxed, intimate feel in the fitness centre.

The Heavenly Spa by Westin embodies a calming atmosphere thanks to the use of warm lighting in the reception’s ceiling cove and shelving. With horizontal linear grazes of light and recessed illuminated niches casting indirect light onto relaxing guests, the swimming pool area has minimal downlighting.

Point Cloud Modeling Technology in Construction Industry

Point Cloud Modeling

What is Point Cloud Modeling?

A point cloud is a group of data points created in space by 3D scanners or photogrammetry software, with each point having its own set of X, Y, and Z coordinates and depicting a 3D shape or structure. An accurate as-built of an object or region is captured by the laser scanner, which can be used to produce a sketch of an existing construction with its precise measurements and specifications. A CAD/BIM model created with this information can be used to budget, plan out, or renovate a building project.

Point Cloud Modeling has emerged as a vital tool in the age of digitization and technological advancement to enable surveyors and engineers with efficient, precise and easy solutions. Point cloud files are a robust way to collect and manage spatial data for 3D modelling.

Point Cloud are typically created with using Photogrammetry and Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR)

Photogrammetry

  • Photogrammetry is a typical method for generating point clouds. This technique of surveying an area with a Drone or UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) called Drone Mapping. A drone operator navigates the UAV to take multiple images of a construction site or landscape from various angles.
  • These images are then sutured and layered with the help of computer software to create a 3D mesh and produce a complete 3D model within a CAD or BIM program. The method of registering and filling in the gaps between the data or focus points and creating a mesh is known as surface reconstruction. It’s crucial to capture as many data points and images as feasible to produce fewer spaces to reconstruct.

LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging)

  • LIDAR (Light detection and ranging) also known as Laser scanning or 3D scanning is a specific remote sensing technique which uses light in the form of laser to measure distances. LIDAR is applied to scan an area or landscape to register and record data points to create a point cloud.
  • The laser scanners can shoot up to 50,000 to 200,000 pulses per second to give precise and detailed view of the mapped area.

Point Cloud Applications in Construction

Point cloud modeling employing drones and UAVs is rapidly increasing in Earthworks and construction projects at different stages of the project due to its versatility and competence. Here are a few applications of Point cloud data at various stages of the project:

  • Construction progress Monitoring- Drones enable Earthworks projects to inspect the progress by taking photos of the site and turning them into Orthomosaics.
  • Building performance examination- Mechanical analysis of bridge structure, stress estimation, morphologic analysis, building accessibility diagnosis, etc.
  • Construction safety- Safety hazards identification, Active safety management, safety assistance for mobile crane lifting operations, identification of blind spots of construction equipment, etc.
  • Renovation & Remodeling- Re-design and renovation of the façades, interior design, energy performance retrofit, refurbishment, etc.
  • Construction automation- Digital reproduction, automated earthwork excavation, etc.
  • Heritage Applications – Surveying, repair and maintenance [136], stability analysis, heritage site preservation, documentation, etc.

Benefits of Point Cloud Modeling in Construction

  1. EFFICIENCY

Uploading your point cloud into a photogrammetry platform lets you organize the data without the hassle of triangulating every point on X, Y and Z manually. The software does the work for you, which saves you hours of time you would have otherwise spent manipulating data. With these hours shortened, you can pull together the project details more quickly and begin your work sooner — which also means faster completion time.

Data collection is also faster because of the large number of points that can be recorded at once. A drone can scan a larger area in much less time than it would take for a surveying team to do the same.

  1. ACCURACY

Precise and quicker outputs for capturing an area or landscape into 3D models. Ground-based LIDAR can yield results that are exact inside a millimeter scale, while drone-based LIDAR is precise from 1 to 30 centimeters.

LIDAR frequently incorporates different highlights like GPS to guarantee every information point accompanies exact data. Photogrammetry, as well, utilizes Real Time Kinetic (RTK) geo-labels to guarantee precision in recording the landscape.

  1. COST-BENEFIT

In light of the more prominent exactness engaged with site planning with point cloud, you can design a more compelling spending plan for your activities. You can try not to go over your monetary cutoff, and you’ll have less odds of running into any exorbitant mix-ups or unforeseen costs. Laser examining likewise wipes out the requirement for manual reviewing, which diminishes the expense of recruiting extra work.

  1. BETTER SAFETY

Manual surveying may require maneuvering through tough terrains which carries the risk of safety hazard for surveyors. Point cloud incorporates drones for each capture of data from these difficult terrains without the risk on injuries.

Point cloud techniques can very powerful be when applied outside of their traditional domain. Working with an expert CAD partner can help you save more money on your projects and finish tasks more efficiently.
