Construction on $4.2B JFK Terminal 6 to start in early 2023

Governor Kathy Hochul declared that the first phase of the privately financed project, which is anticipated to cost $4.2 billion, will move forward early next year with the construction of a brand-new, state-of-the-art Terminal 6 at JFK International Airport. This project will conclude the airport's transformation into a worldwide gateway for the twenty-first century and is the last component of the JFK Vision plan to begin.

Now that financial commitments have been made and approvals for the first phase of the $4.2 billion Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City have been obtained, construction is expected to begin in early 2023. According to a press statement, the privately funded project will be finished in two phases, with the first new gates opening in 2026 and completion anticipated in 2028.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK Millennium Partners, a group made up of Vantage Airport Group, American Triple I, real estate operating business RXR, and JetBlue Airways, will construct Terminal 6 through a P3 arrangement.

According to Governor Hochul, "JFK International, the country's gateway to the globe, will soon be worthy of New Yorkers, offering an unmatched passenger experience." "This historic $18 billion investment will turn JFK into a world-class airport and generate 4,000 jobs in the process. I want to congratulate everyone who has worked so hard over the years to make this project a reality."

An industry-leading investor, developer, and manager of award-winning international airport projects, including LaGuardia Terminal B, is Vantage Airport Group. American Triple I is a certified minority-owned investor, owner, developer, and manager of infrastructure assets. New York real estate operating company RXR and JetBlue are also members of the consortium. The new terminal will be built by the JMP consortium in two stages, with the first new gates expected to open in 2026 and the project expected to be finished in 2028.

According to the press statement, Terminal 6 will include 1.2 million square feet, 10 gates, and eating and shopping options. According to the press release, it will have high ceilings and floor to ceiling windows, as well as public artwork created by New York artists and architectural features that represent nearby landmarks.

According to the statement, the new terminal will also be equipped with touchless technology from check-in to gates, automated TSA lanes, and biometric access control systems. Its design will be adaptable to take into account future technological or governmental changes. The epidemic has increased need for touchless upgrades and flexible airport design.
